Wenzhou City is a prefecture-level city in southeastern Zhejiang, bordering Lishui to the west, Taizhou to the north, and facing the East China Sea in the east. Wenzhou, also called “Lucheng”, is a coastal port city with a charming environment comprising of beautiful mountains, meandering rivers and mesmerizing coastal sceneries. The profound culture of the city can be traced back to the Neolithic Age, at least 7000 years ago. It is said that when the city was under construction, a divine white deer happened to pass by with flowers in its mouth. The local people took as a good omen and named the city “Lucheng” (“Deer City”). Due to its moderate climate, the city received its present name Wenzhou, meaning “mild and pleasant land” in 675 AD.

Wenzhou has a subtropical climate with four distinctive seasons. The city is known for its beautiful landscape with many of southeast China's famous mountains and lakes such as Mount Yandang, the Nanxi River, Baizhangji (famous waterfall), Feiyun Lake, Mount Wuyanling and Nanji Island. Wenzhou is also famous for its superior handicraft industry, especially the famous Dongyang wood carving. Wenzhou City's sea, land and air traffic systems operate smoothly allowing visitors to easily get around.
